My Philosophy on Education:
Where are going as a people? A society? This answer can only be answered by how we educate our students today. I would love to see a productivity driven society of growth and expansion of consciousness. With this in mind, how can I educate the students of today to become the leaders of tomorrow?
I believe in motivation as being an essential component of learning. Students can learn as fast as they want to, believe they can. Our jobs as teachers is simply to facilitate desire, channel it into productive growth. The world is changing rapidly. We are finding young minds out performing the top scientists and economists. Why? Simply because they are pursuing their interests. If given the opportunity any student can flourish in his/her own interest.
This vibrant creativity must be harnessed. To do this, we must equip our students with the tools to understand the process of learning. Through teaching meta-cognition we can give students the tools to utilize the infinite potential of the mind. If a student can ask themselves what they like, ask themselves how he/she works best- critically thinking, then we can begin to trust our students to craft their own education trajectory.
Once they can reason they can come to understand what they can gain from education. With this thirst for knowledge engaged, it is only a matter of time before the student attempts to devise ways of making the process of learning easier. Whether it be learning how to create computer programs, or making a system of agriculture more efficient, or reorganizing systems of government to optimize liberties students will find a way to build as a step to absorb more knowledge.
The power of youth is naivete. Young minds do not know what cannot be done. Once the student realizes what they want from life they will attempt to get the knowledge to pursue their desire. A young man who wants a car for his 16th birthday but has a concern for the sustainability of fossil fuels will seek the knowledge to learn and eventually build an electric car. While guiding the future generations of societal norms, we must never tell them what they CAN'T do.
The purpose of education is Self-Actualization. To know the Self is the fundamental purpose for education. Skills, information, critical thinking, and production are all processes of gaining knowledge of the Self. If we prepare to teach with Self-Actualization in mind, we the teachers will move in a direction of greater purpose and Self-knowledge as well as the students.
